However, what other people don't know is that he actually spent more than a billion peso so the much-awaited event will happen here.
Check out the breakdown:
- $1 million – paid upfront to Miss Universe Organization
- $6 million – paid for the right to hold pageant
- $6 million – paid for production cost (accommodation, transportation, meals for candidates, officials and staff.)
- $12 million – cost of M/Y Happy Life, the 16-room luxury yacht (with Jacuzzi and KTV rooms). It brought the candidates from Batangas to Manila.
So all in all, Chavit spent $25 million or P1.2 billion.
When asked to shed out money for Miss Universe, Chavit said he consulted his team and it turned out that they will either win or lose minimally. So, he agreed, because it can help in the tourism of the Philippines.
"So I said yes. Besides, it’s good for the country’s tourism. I just told them (my team) to make sure that if we are going to lose money, that it would only be minimal," said Chavit.
